Asbestos

Asbestos waste can be found in two forms, both of which requires different packaging requirements, transportation requirements and proper shipping documents. Since asbestos has no treatment technology, all asbestos is disposed of in secure landfills; selecting the correct landfill is imperative to remain within State and Federal compliance.

Asbestos cleaning

Typical means of transportation of asbestos are both open and closed roll-off containers holding up to 40 cubic yards. Large end dump equipment can also be used for transporting bulk loaded asbestos containing soil and debris.

Auto Fluff and Fines

Auto Fluff is the residual product from automobile scrap processing. This is a result of shredded headliners, seats, dashboards, carpets and truck lining. Auto scrap yards across the country continue to process and stock pile tons and tons of this product on a daily basis. Quite often the material is contaminated will both lead and PCB’s. Oil and Automotive Fuel Disposal

Gasoline, antifreeze, diesel fuel, motor oil—all of these industry chemicals are regulated carefully by the EPA and require special handling for transport action and disposal. Pro-Teck is a leader in waste management solutions for waste oil disposal, gasoline disposal, and the handling and transportation of chemical wastes of all types. Pro-Teck will work with your team in developing and implementing a waste oil disposal plan based on all local, state and federal regulations in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and the rest of the Northeast states.

Catch Basin Waste

Catch basin waste is common to all cities and municipalities. A catch basin collects surface water runoff and channels it to the storm drain or to the sanitary sewer.

Depending on the type of system, solids and sediments settle to the bottom. Pro-Teck can provide a vacuum truck to suck up the catch basin sediments and then properly dispose of at a fully permitted facility. These sediments can contain car wash residue, oils, chemicals or metals.

Analytical data may be required, to determine the exact contaminant of concerns. Depending on the data results, catch basin waste will need to be shipped to either a hazardous or non hazardous waste disposal facility permitted to accept catch basin waste.

CFC Recovery – Chlorofluorocarbons

Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), along with other chlorine- and bromine-containing compounds, have been implicated in the accelerated depletion of ozone in the Earth's stratosphere. CFCs were developed in the early 1930s and are used in a variety of industrial, commercial, and household applications. Many applications include as coolants for commercial and home refrigeration units, aerosol propellants, electronic cleaning solvents, and blowing agents.

CFC Recovery – Chlorofluorocarbons

Pro-Teck will provide certified technicians according to EPA Regulations as required by 40CFR Part 82, Subpart F to utilize a self-contained, on-site refrigerant recovery vacuum system to properly remove and dispose of Chlorofluorocarbons.

After the CFCs are recovered, appliances are orange striped and labeled "All CFCs have been recovered in accordance with the Clean Air Act (CAA) and EPA Regulations." A certification letter is supplied by Pro-Teck detailing the recovery of the Chlorofluorocarbons.

Recovered CFCs are tested in an off premise lab and transferred into larger DOT approved containers for transportation to an EPA certified refrigerant reclamation facility; all of which the professionals at Pro-Teck are fully trained to assist with your Chlorofluorocarbons disposal.

Construction and Demolition Debris

Transportation and disposal/ recycling of construction and demolition debris is yet another service provided by the Pro-Teck team. Although only regulated under some states’ flow control regulations, correct shipment and packaging of these waste materials can greatly affect the overall cost of waste disposal on any construction project.

Contaminated Soil Disposal

Contaminated Soil Disposal

The waste management team at Pro-Teck has over 20 years experience reviewing Remedial Action Plans (RAP’s) for the remediation of contaminated soil. When executing a remediation plan, contaminated soil transportation costs can run unexpectedly high unless a well-researched project bid is obtained beforehand.

Connecticut Soil Disposal

CT Soil Disposal: Pro-Teck LLC can assist owners, site contractors or engineers and architects on understanding the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection’s (CTDEP) 2008 revisions of the solid waste management regulations. Under this regulation, the CTDEP has clearly defined what "Clean Fill", "Conditional Fill" and "Regulated Fill" means in the state of Connecticut:

"Clean Fill" means natural soil or earthen materials consisting only of soils, stones or rocks, or a mixture or combination of such materials, which are raw materials excavated or extracted from a borrow pit, earthen bank, gravel bank, mine or quarry or excavated from a single residential real property composed of four residential units or fewer and not affected by a release of petroleum products, oils, chemicals or by any other polluting substance.

Connecticut Soil Disposal

"Conditional Fill" means any of the following or any mixture or combination of only the following - earthen material consisting only of soil, stones or rocks that have been excavated, or sediments dredged from fresh water that:

1. Are known or may reasonably be expected to contain one or more substances at concentrations at or below all of the CTDEP’s residential direct exposure criteria and all of the GA pollutant mobility criteria;
2. Are used, reused or recycled as fill, including structural fill, or as a grading material; and
3. Are used in compliance with section 22a-209d-1 of the regulations of Connecticut state agencies that detail the categories and requirements for conditionally exempt solid wastes.

"Regulated Fill" means any one or a mixture of the following, which is or will be used, reused or recycled as fill, including as structural fill, or as a grading material including:

1. Earthen materials, other than clean fill, consisting only of soil, stones or rocks that have been excavated, or sediments dredged from fresh water, any of which are known or may reasonably be expected to contain one or more substances at concentrations exceeding any of the CTDEP’s residential direct exposure criterion or any of the GA pollutant mobility criteria;
2. Sediments dredged from salt water
3. Used brick, ceramic or concrete, any of which are from construction, remodeling, repair or demolition operations or activities except when such materials are being or will be used, reused or recycled in compliance with section 22a-209d-1;
4. Used asphalt or bituminous concrete except when any such materials are being or will be used, reused or recycled in compliance with section 22a-209d-1; or
5. Sand, waste and other debris from street sweeping activities.

All non hazardous soil excavated in the state of Connecticut will fall into one of these three categories. Pro-Teck LLC is well versed in these soil regulations and can assist your project by supplying an appropriate transportation and disposal option.

PCB Ballasts and Transformers

PCB ballasts are found in the housing of fluorescent, mercury vapor, and high intensity discharge lighting that were manufactured prior to 1980. When these PCB ballasts go out of service, they are subject to the strict requirements of the Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA) and other state regulations. Pro-Teck is well versed in all state regulations for PCB disposal in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, and other surrounding areas.

Toxic PCBs can also be present in many older transformers, capacitors, hydraulic systems, electromagnets, and circuit breakers. The TSCA PCB cleanup and spill reporting requirements are complicated and difficult to summarize because they may vary according to the source, volume and location of a spill. Lead based paint and lead contaminated materials

Lead based paint disposal is strictly regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency and most state agencies because of the damaging and often life threatening consequences of lead poisoning. Lead based paints have been banned for many years, yet many older buildings and structures still are contaminated with lead based paint. Lead based paint can be found on many different substrates such as wood found in window frames and the metal of old warehouse shelving.

RCRA Hazardous Waste

The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) was originally enacted in 1976 and has been amended and clarified many times since then. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is responsible for the administration and enforcement of RCRA which outlines three major goals:

• to protect the public from harm caused by unsafe waste disposal
• to encourage recycling, reuse, and reduction of certain resources.
• to clean up spill improperly stored wastes, and contaminated sites that may be harmful to people or the environment.

The RCRA calls out in detail proper handling, labeling, transport, and disposal of types of waste. This is a complex set of regulations that requires an expert eye for accurate interpretation and implantation of the right procedures for each waste management situation.

RCRA Hazardous Waste

The Pro-Teck team is adept at the proper development of action plans based on the RCRA guidelines for each hazardous waste. Interpretation of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) is another Pro-Teck talent that will aid in the proper identification and disposal of questionable chemicals and substances. Pigeon Guano

Although not regulated by the EPA, proper disposal of pigeon guano can be difficult. An extremely difficult waste to handle, as found in towers, steeples, walkways and bridge girders pigeon and bat guano excrement can be a health hazard. Dried excrement becomes friable and organisms can travel as airborne contaminants.

Pigeon guano also creates fungal concerns as bird carcasses and bird parts are considered infectious waste and incineration is required.

Septic Sludge

Septic sludge waste disposal can be difficult. If found in its original state, septic waste can be blended to amenable for landfill disposal or incineration. When septic is introduced to a soil or dirt media, biological testing must be performed to determine the true nature of the contamination. Spent Carbon Disposal

Activated carbon is used for many industrial processing and environmental management applications such as: pharmaceutical manufacture, mineral processing, liquid and food purification, air filtering, odor control, and water filtering of many different varieties. This versatile element is also crucial in the deactivation and clean-up of many chemical and biological hazardous waste spills. Waste scrap tires could be one of the biggest waste related problems our nation faces. Underground Storage Tanks

The release of petroleum products to the environment may be discovered when an underground storage tank, (UST) is evaluated for compliance or removed. Achieving compliance with existing federal, state and local regulations and guidelines of such sites often requires information to be generated during a UST closure assessment. Having the right information helps characterize the release properly and address questions such as whether the cleanup is needed. If so, the closure report will act as a diary to describe in detail that proper transportation and disposal of the underground storage tank as well as all impacted soil had been successfully removed.

Excavation is also preferred in many situations because it allows for the removal of contaminated soil based on visual observation of staining, on site PID (Photoionization Detector) readings, while providing access for site-specific confirmatory sampling to ensure compliance with the Department of Environmental Protection.
